Boating

Set sail for an amazing day at sea

Whether taking a refreshing dip in a pristine cove, trying your hand at offshore fishing, or enjoying an unforgettable sunset cocktail cruise, boating is the perfect way to explore Nicaragua from a different perspective. Depending on your group’s size and budget, we can arrange a day aboard a yacht or catamaran as a private charter or as part of a group tour.

A typical half-day cruise will depart from the San Juan del Sur harbor around noon and return at sunset around 5 or 6 pm depending on the time of year and weather conditions. Cruises heading south can pass by the San Juan del Sur lighthouse, Paradise Cove, Playa Remanso, Playa Hermosa, Playa Yankee (be sure to snap a pic of the Orquidea!), Playa Coco, Playa Flor and El Ostional – right up to the border with Costa Rica. Alternatively, cruises heading north can get views of the impressive La Joya and Pacific Marlin developments below the Cristo de Misericordia monument, Playa Marsella, Playa Maderas, and Playa Blanca.

While each tour operator is different, most cruises will include unlimited drinks and some snacks on board. After disembarking from the boat, we suggest checking out one of the many excellent beachfront restaurants for dinner.

On days when cruise ships are in town, the cruise ship terminal market is a wonderful place to shop for authentic Nicaraguan goods including pottery, jewelry, clothing, children’s toys, and artwork. There is usually a lively local band and folkloric dancing to be enjoyed as well.
